What am I doing with Islam ?

For those that don't understand what I'm doing with Islam , I'm bringing in a new understanding that is closer to the original. And I'm following renewers (mujaddids) of the understanding like Adnan Ibrahim of Gaza and Abdulfatah Moro of Tunisia and others. Hamza Yusuf and Tariq Ramadan (both English speaking ) are also good.

Basically there is a revolution happening right now in Islamic renewal and thinking. But some may still not be fully aware.

Key in this new understanding I follow is that secularism is at the heart of true Islam. But here secularism isn't separating religion from politics but instead separating religion from the state. ie the state and its structure has no religion. It's just a tool to be used by the people to run their politics. People can have all types of parties in that state and to decide which laws get applied. It can be Islamic laws from an Islamic party or non Islamic from non Islamic parties if they get majority vote. So it's very similar to the current democratic system in the West. Turkey is close to that model. It's a secular state. And very successful.

This business of a caliphate that forces a state to be Islamic is not from Islam. People choose their political system freely and fairly. No forcing. Nor is invading other people's lands part of it. Invasion is wrong. Protecting humanity's freedom is right. Islam must be seen as a mercy to humanity. Not something that invades their land and takes over.

What is Religion and how is it meant to Operate ?

Religion first of all is about thinking and questioning why we are here on this planet and in this existence. Once we know why we can then choose to live in the appropriate way in accordance with those reasons. The word choose is important cos we have been given free choice (God has given us this). So we can choose not to if we like too. This search for truth starts with is there really a higher power that created us and everything? (The one we call God or Allah or Jehovah etc). If we find that there really is such a power then we can ask about it. What is its nature. Why has it sent our souls here, to this planet and put us in the bodies that we are in. What is the point? And more importantly has there been any communication from it. Depending on what we find we can then go on different routes. How to Defeat the Far Right in the UK inshaAllah (one idea)

  First of all we need to have an idea of what all this is all about.
