The misconception about Sahih hadiths ( my understanding)
Bismillah
Sahih doesn't mean the hadith is true. It just means that the chain of narration was deemed reliable. So it relates to the chain and not the content i believe.
And the chain is to do with how some narrators are regarded by Hadith scholars.
And because they differ on how narrators are classified it means that a Hadith that is regarded sahih by one scholar eg imam bukhari maybe regarded weak by another Hadith scholar eg imam Ahmed for example. Simply because they differ on a particular narrator of the hadith. With one he is regarded trustworthy and with another regarded suspect (eg due to unreliable memory or other reasons. Each scholar has their criteria for classification i believe)
But because we have many either deceitful or ignorant scholars today, this point is not clarified and many Muslims think a sahih hadith is actually sahih ( sahih means correct in arabic). And start thinking that any hadith in sahih bukhari is true.
The Quran on the other hand is 100% authentic because it came by tawatur ( multiple independent parallel chains). This method makes it guaranteed to be correct. And out of the thousands or hundreds of thousands of hadith only about 50 are mutawater i understand ( ie that means the majority are not guaranteed to be correct). So please understand the difference between hadith and Quran.
Hope this helps clarifies things.
Also feel free to correct me if you think I'm wrong.
Salaam
Brother be careful about what you post on the internet. I don’t know who you are and I normally don’t read or comment on such things but I felt it as a duty.
ReplyDeleteWith all due respect I believe you are not clear upon the science of Hadith yourself. You should be very hesitant to post such things onto the internet which somebody may read and if it is incorrect you may misguide a person without realising or intending it.
With regards to your comment about Sahih Hadeeth , yes the term Sahih is referring to the chain of narrators as being fully trustworthy. There are many levels of authenticity, the strongest of which is Sahih then hasan (good) going all the way to daeef (weak) and mawdoo3 ( fabricated).
If a hadith is Sahih , meaning it has a sound chain of narrators then in turn the text of the hadith must be Sahih also as it means we can be sure that the Prophet (saw) said this phrase mentioned in the Hadith , or did the action described.
As for your comment about Bukhari , this is a long debate between the scholars and the majority of scholars are of the opinion that all the ahadeeth ( plural or hadeeth ) in Bukhairi are 100% authentic and some scholars spoke about a small number of them as having a slight weakness, but the number is very small and debateable.
There is no instance of Imam Ahmed saying a narrator is weak when imam bukahri says he is trustworthy. Yes you are correct in saying that each Hadith scholar has his own criteria for accepting a narrator. Iman bukhari was the strictest of all the scholar in his criteria of accepting a narrator and for this reason left out thousands of hadiths from his book Sahih Bukhari that may other scholars would have happily accepted.
The discussion about how we use and implement ahadeeth is another topic altogether.
As for your comment about mutawaatir ahadeeth , Allah knows best where you got the number 50 from. Also a important point is a Hadeeth does not have to be mutawaatir to be accepted. Obviously a Sahih hadeeth which only has 1 chain is not as strong as a Hadeeth that has 10 chains , but it is still Sahih and means we can be sure it can be traced back directly to the prophet (saw) and therefore must be accepted.
Finally a good character trait for both me and you to try and practice is to assume we are in the wrong until we are certain and also not call names such as ignorant and deceitful to those who are more learned than us and are more likely to be correct.
This is a reminder to me first and I hope you dont take this is the wrong way. If I have said anything good it is from Allah and any mistakes are from myself. Please correct any mistakes I have made and forgive me if I unintentionally offended anyone.
JazakAllah Kahir
Thankyou I respect your view but I disagree.
