SERIOUS advice to new Muslim converts

Dear Muslim Convert
Welcome to Islam but beware the general situation of Muslims. A big majority of us today unfortunately are just Muslim by name and worse still there is a minority who appear very religious but have very dark hearts. Please be very very careful. You may find that staying away from most Muslims is the best solution for the time being. Sorry to give you this advice when you are looking forward to a new and happy life as a Muslim. There are ofcourse some very good Muslims. But they are not the majority currently i believe. And they may tend not to speak out but keep themselves to themselves.

I'm writing this article because for the second time now I've heard of a story of abuse of two new converts. Both in the UK.

The first related to an English man i knew from my past. He converted and the mosque he went to, the people there duped him to marry a Pakistani lady from Pakistan. It turns out they wanted to use him to get her into the country. After years of problems and deception he finally managed to divorce her and get rid of this problem. I think it was a very traumatic experience for him.

The second story i only heard yesterday. This time a female convert. She said the Imam of a mosque got her married to a  muslim guy and then that guy started hitting her and the Imam she said, told her it was permissible for a man to hit his wife. All she did she said was listen to music. (Which is permissible according to many scholars. But the Saudi wahabi version prohibits it). She also left him at the end but it was very traumatic for her too as she thought she would be sinful if she disobeyed her husband.

This is the reality of some of today's Muslims and imams unfortunately. So dont get tricked or deceived. Be very cautious and suspicious. Sorry to paint this picture to you but i don't want anymore converts hurt. Best thing maybe is to hang out with only converts. Leave the born Muslims. They have major issues at present.

PS: It turns out the Muslim the sister married was a convert too. This is what she said about him:
"Well he was a convert and I find them to be more problematic because they get brain washed easily and have identity problems."

Reforming the Muslims in the UK ! What is needed and how ?

Bismillah ArRahman ArRaheem I think there are many good Muslim speakers on youtube that are addressing the issues of the Ummah and helping to wake the Muslims up and get them more understanding of the deen and better practicing. Those who are willing to learn and are open to leanring can benefit a lot. But those who just want the traditional path and follow as before we cannot reach them well and so they will end up staying where they are. Ideally i think we need to set up groups that work together and talk together and are active in their localities. Who are happy to engage with different ideas and work for improvement of the community. This may be what is missing. The new knowledge needs to be turned into community action I believe, where Muslims talk with each other and see where we are going and how best to combat our problems and so on.
