Revival within the UK Muslim Community
Do we need a revival?
Some may argue that we don't. The way we are behaving is fine, they may think.
Others may think we need it but may not be clear about its details.
Here are my current thoughts:
1- Our leadership needs changing. Especially at the mosque Imam levels. We need speeches that actually help us address our issues. Not repeats that put people to sleep. This is such a fundamental point i believe and will take great efforts to accomplish. There are so many obstacles to accomplish this. Here they are in my view:
A- Mosque committees are not interested in this type of change. They will resist it. It's too alien to them.
B- Imams are not equipped to deal with these issues. One imam i believe even questioned whether there is a need for unity! Many are just not equipped intellectually i think. Mostly Saudi trained and hence not taught true Islam. But a fake apolitical Islam designed to please whoever is ruling no matter how corrupt they are. The max they would do against a corrupt leader is to pray for them. Instead of openly critisizing them and telling them to change. No hope imams.
C- The muslim community is passive and not interested in reform. They just want to go along as they have always been. Hence they well be against reformers. As brother Asghar Bukhari and others know too well.
D- You have the extremists who think it's all about military jihad and fighting the enemy and using force. And are quick to label anyone who doesn't think like them as a sellout etc. Those people tend to hold wahabi type thinking. Based on only them being perfect and everyone else being less then them. Pure arrogance.
So as you can see, the task of reform is massively difficult. No wonder bro Asghar decided to leave. Too much resistance.
And Allah knows best.
What is the solution then?
The will has to come from the Muslim community for change. And more importantly from the youth. They need to take responsibility for this and start caring about this if they want their future to be here in the uk i think. If they are planning to migrate and leave then fine i think. They don't have to care. So they need to decide where they want their future to be. Here or abroad. And based on that decide to be politically active or politically inactive.
And Allah knows best.
Salam
Ali
