They had planned it some time ago and when the Ottoman Caliphate had become weak it was a good time to put the plan into action.  And the worst bit is when Britain then sent in Lawrance of Arabia and others to bribe the Arabs (especially the Saudi family) to separate from the Ottoman State and divide the Muslims and make them weak so that they can never again regain the Caliphate (or Khilafa state). But they forgot that Allah swt also plans and plots just as they do. And that He is a much much better planner and plotter. So they will lose at the end.

Religion first of all is about thinking and questioning why we are here on this planet and in this existence. Once we know why we can then choose to live in the appropriate way in accordance with those reasons. The word choose is important cos we have been given free choice (God has given us this).
