Why those who call for khilafah carry misguidance
Why those who call for khilafah carry misguidance.
Bismillah Arahman ArRaheem
Firstly this article is not an attack on the concept of khilafah. Infact the core of the problem is to do with the idea of this concept.
Current idea that is peddled:
Khilafah means Muslim unity in a giant state that will protect muslims how they used to be. And to expand islam through jihad to the non muslims. And it would be offensive jihad. By force we will invade other countries whether they like it or not.
You can see why this understanding of khilafah is wrong can't you. It isn't very hard. Yet it is the one that is peddled mostly I believe. Eg by hizb ut tahrir ( party of liberation, HT). So they want to liberate muslims from invasion by non muslims so that they can then go and invade the non muslims. And they believe the non muslims will,at a later day, thank them for being invaded by their khilafah state to bring them the justice and mercy of Islam; which the callers believe they will be able to do.
For me this sounds very pathetic to be honest. But I know that if you've brainwashed yourself you will find ways to justify this strange understanding of khilafah call as spread by HT.
My view of Khilafah:
It's not about unifying Muslim lands at the foremost. Khilafah means the state. So it's about how to create a state that chooses islam as its way of life. This is the theme and centre of the issue. So if we look at the Sunna of our prophet (pbuh) then we can find out how he tried to do that in Mecca and then in Medina.
So the very good ijtihad of sheikh Taqiudeen (ra) which HT carry about non violence and speaking the truth and without fear is excellent alhamdulilah. And it maybe because of this that governments fear them. Jihadi groups are easy to dismiss. But intellectual groups much harder. Because they operate in the long term. Across generations even.
So now the issue becomes how to convince a society to adopt Islam ? So the prophet (pbuh) explained to the people of his society the basis of this deen. All things against Islam were pointed out eg lying, cheating , idolatry and so on. Today our societies don't have a big problem accepting Islam ( because their forefathers were Muslim. So it's their default). But they do have a big problem with understanding the essence of Islam. Which is Justice and Freedom in my view. Freedom is from the verse "there is no compulsion in religion". Both of these essences have been severely attacked through the poisonous state backed scholars that do the regular brainwashing and poison spreading.
Thus before bringing in the state (through a coup for example) the callers need first to ensure that the right state will appear. ie so that it's not a poison filled state with a label of Islam hanging on it. And this is were the problem lies.
What has happened unfortunately, in my view , is that HT has bypassed the society preparation stage and went on the political coup stage. And they even brought in justifications for that. These justification are not from the Sunna I believe but artificially created unfortunately. They say if we get control of the state then we will be more able to culture the people. And thus they short circuited the method of prophethood that they claim to be fervent followers and adherents of. And it then becomes an issue of taking power and grabbing control. This is similar to what has happened with the Muslim Brotherhood unfortunately as described by sheikh Sha'rawy (ra) when he announced his leaving of the brotherhood. It all becomes about taking power and the method of prophethood, which is to do with culturing society, gets to be put on the back burner and thus they effectively sabotage the Divine method due to power greed or excessive haste.
This is why now the founders of the Tunisian Alnahda Islamic group ( eg sheikh Abdul fatah Moro) have realised this and corrected their path. And it explains why only Tunisia was successful in the Arab spring. They could easily have gone down. They still have problems but they managed to avert the fate of the brotherhood in Egypt alhamdulilah.
So my advice is to leave/ take a break from HT and go back to the issue of culturing society instead of power grabbing. And that will require verifying that our understanding of Islam is actually clean and correct. I believe we have many issues in this realm. Eg I now see secularism as acceptable as well as democracy. Why ? Because they are fair. People choose the party they want to rule them. And when they don't like it they change them. So if they don't want islam they have the right to select another system. You cannot force people into Islam. Secularism allows for such a change mechanism. In Britain today muslims can set up an Islamic party and if the majority vote for it the state starts implementing islam. It becomes Islamic. But if later on they didn't like it they can change it to something else. The current islam that is peddled does not allow for non Muslim parties to exist. Whereas secularism allows all. So which is fairer? This means that we are carrying a corrupt and misguided understanding of Islam. We need to renew (tajdeed) our understanding so that we cleanse it from the corruption it has suffered. So now we muslims need an intellectual revival to rediscover true Islam. And this I believe was what the original ijtihad of HT was. But it then got hijacked by the power grabbers. I used to study with them some time ago. In Arabic and English.
So to summarise; please leave or take a break from HT. Analyse and deeply think about what I have said here. And feel free to challenge me. I don't say I am right in everything. And I urge you to move towards tajdeed. So that we understand Islam well and correctly.
