Why we do not see the dictators and alqaeeda and Wahabism as punishments from Allah.

I think it's because our analysis of our situation is so wrong. 

We muslims have strayed from islam and Allah most kind is trying to get us back on the road to jannah. He is doing this i believe by inflicting punishment on us so that we realise there is something very wrong with us and that we need to change in a big way. 

Hence we have evil dictators and wahabi sect which does takfir and kills muslims.
These are punishments of Allah on us I think. 

My evidence is the aya:
"And we shall give them a taste of the smaller punishment instead of the bigger punishment in the hope that they return"
و لنذيقنهم من العذاب الادنى دون العذاب الاكبر لعلهم يرجعون


And Allah knows best.

What is Religion and how is it meant to Operate ?

Religion first of all is about thinking and questioning why we are here on this planet and in this existence. Once we know why we can then choose to live in the appropriate way in accordance with those reasons. The word choose is important cos we have been given free choice (God has given us this). So we can choose not to if we like too. This search for truth starts with is there really a higher power that created us and everything? (The one we call God or Allah or Jehovah etc). If we find that there really is such a power then we can ask about it. What is its nature. Why has it sent our souls here, to this planet and put us in the bodies that we are in. What is the point?
