The Wahabi/Salafi Opinion Issue

  • Ali Twaij You will never get perfection sister. For me the pluses far far outweigh the negatives.

  • Iman  Of course, if perfection could be achieved then there'd be no need for the documentary in the first place. I never would have expected perfection from the BBC but the least they could have done was to balance it with Islamic views, a few quotes from Quran or Ahadith wouldn't have gone a miss to explain better the rulings and hikmah on hijab and polygamy. Alhamdulillah ala kulli haal.
  • Ali Twaij I think the aim was to show muslim converts and how they thought and behaved rather than what islam says about things. Ie about people not religion.

  • Omer  this is the problem for us as Muslims the religion is the religion, it doesn't change regardless of our opinion. However, in this country opinion seems to be taken as the source of knowledge, that is why so many objected to the way the programme was presented, but it's true many ignorants learn from others' opinions rather than going to the source of the knowledge, the Quran & Sunnah. I totally agree with the sister.
  • Ali Twaij The religion changes according to which scholar you follow and according to which sect he or she belongs to. Ie people see the same religion differently. Ie there are different understandings of the religion.
  • Ali Twaij But some people want to say there is only one understanding and that they have it. This is the problem.
  • Ali Twaij They select one of the available understandings and start believing that it is the only correct one.
  • Ali Twaij Even though they cannot know for sure because they are not Allah. They forget that only Allah knows things for sure. And so they ascribe to themselves an attribute of Allah. And so they commit shirk without knowing ! Very sad.
  • Ali Twaij And they also don't realise that they selected the understanding they follow based on a scholars opinion. And a scholars opinion is ijtihad. Ie can be wrong.
  • Ali Twaij Result: they have very little clue what is going on.
  • Iman  Brother Ali, when it comes to very new reverts such as those in the documentary, it is best not to bring up complex issues such as Taqleed and Ijtihad. It should be emphasised to new Muslims the importance of adhering to the Qur'an and Sunnah according...See More
  • Ali Twaij Salam sister, you said its best not to bring up complex issues with reverts. Is this an Opinion, an Ijtihad or a Fact ?

This the problem with this new salafi/wahabi thinking that has entered the ummah from the area of Saudi I think. It is based on strong arrogance and they think only they know what is right and what is wrong. Anyone else who speaks who is not from their specific group does not need listening too, as he or she is sure to be wrong. Very sad people indeed.

They also consider themselves to be knowledgable and will present many ayas as evidence but they dont realise that their interpretation of the ayas are wrong or that the ayas are not applicable to the case talked about.

They have gods (who are thier scholars) who have taken their minds away from them. Whereas for a normal Muslim he has only one God, Allah and Allah has given us a mind to use. For them their scholars took away thier minds and made them think in a wierd way. Without much logic.

They cannot see they are wrong, and so they its not easy to help them. They will have to find out for themselves. The hard way i think. But hopefully when it is not too late.
