A debate about Bid'aa of Celebrating Prophet's Birthday

Berkshire Islamic Info Group (BIIG) shared Bilal Philips's status update.

Today is not the Prophet’s (PBUH) birthday, today was the day he (PBUH) died.
The date of his birth is unknown so do not celebrate it, as it is bida’ah

  • Ali Twaij The real bid'a is the Muslims operating without Shura to choose their leader, as in the time of khilafah rashida. Instead ruling families imposed themselves on the Muslims in order to take power and they hired evil scholars to misguide the Muslims and divert attention from the true bid'as and the true Islam.

  • Ali Twaij The result is an ummah that becomes misguided and has its priorities upside down. Eg Outward appearance becomes more important than inward appearance (eg beard length as opposed to akhlaq, beautiful manners). And hypocracy enters the land. Lies spread and priorities becomes upside down. Our situation today i believe.

  • Ali Twaij The future is bright though. Tajdeed (islamic renewal) is coming to bring back the correct understanding of Islam. And it will be from those who are not scared to think and use their mind.

  • Ali Twaij And those who just like to copy what others say without questioning its validity will lose out big time. So be among the thinkers, not copiers. Use you mind.

  • Berkshire Islamic Info Group (BIIG) Brother Ali, it's best to listen to people of knowledge especially when it pertains to the deen. It is very dangerous to speak about deeni matters from our own opinions and ideas. We must refer such matters to the scholars. One shouldn't, for example, give one's opinion about preferred methods of heart surgery without having completed the necessary medical training. A 5 minute google search cannot compare to years of extensive study and training.

  • Berkshire Islamic Info Group (BIIG) Brother BiiG does not consist of Sheikhs or Ulamas so it is our duty to post things from authentic sources. Not only does it is honest to show who we are sharing from but is our duty to educate our fellow Muslims dangers of using one own intellect to make judgement. Only acceptable method of following Islam is based on Quran, Sunnah and how the pious predecessor the salaf interpreted it. If we follow your advice then everyone would come out with their own interpretation which would lead to chaos like you see in most communities and countries today.

  • Ali Twaij Thanks bro/ sister. I used to think like that but now think differently. I realise now that there are evil sheikhs who are just after dunya and so misguide those who listen to them.

  • Ali Twaij There are also sheikhs who dont think deeply and just hold knowledge without knowing how to use it. I believe these are mentioned in the Quran as donkeys carrying weights.

  • Ali Twaij On top of that scholars differ in opinions and views. How can you know which is right and which is wrong if you don't question them? You can't.

  • Ali Twaij For example how do you know that those who are ahlul quran and sunna are actually ahlul quran and sunna. How do you validate them?

  • Ali Twaij And if that wasn't enough, there are corrupt rulers who higher corrupt scholars to misguide the ummah about things. How do you know the scholars you have been listening to are not corrupt ones and been filling your mind with corrupt thoughts without us realising?

  • Ali Twaij We need to realise that becoming a scholar doesnt mean you are no longer tested. I believe Allah tests scholars by giving some knowledge and then sees how they behave with it. Do they become arrogant and show off. Or do they sell it for dunya. Or do they use it to do good. How can we tell which is which?
  • Ali Twaij Omer bro, do not fear chatting. You may find it beneficial at the end. Salam
  • Ali Twaij Anyone with further questions can contact me on alitwaij@hotmail.com

The other thing i wanted to add is how scholars seem now to use fear tactics to frighten their students/followers/listeners not to listen to scholars who think differently from thier sect. Basically telling them that to think like those people is a grave sin and you will enter Hell etc. This is control by Fear.

Instead people should be free to listen to all scholars of all sects and decide what they think is right for themselves rather than have someone scare them and frighten them. I think this is a form of mind control. But people are not realising this and are submissive to this contol without being aware. And they are grown men and women those people.

And those corrupt, arrogant scholars I believe think they have much power in their hands because they can control the minds of so many people. They may think that they have become gods themselves. I dont know.
They should instead advise their listeners to listen to other scholars and views and dont constrain themselves to one view but look around and choose for themselves the right path. They can advise them what they think is the best path, but they should encourage them to listen and learn for themselves. And Allah knows best. (I may need to update this piece of text at the end, just my thoughts for the moment).
